About the Artist

I just happen to use paint more than a typewriter these days.

I've written five novels and never tried to publish one.

The stories have always mattered more than the format. Every exhibition starts the same way. I fill a notebook with ideas, write page titles on sticky notes, spread them across a wall, and only then do I begin making the images. The paintings don't come first. They're the last draft.

I don't think art should come with instructions. I don't think every painting needs a single meaning. The best conversations I've had about my work usually involve two people standing in front of the same piece, seeing completely different things, and both being right.

Everything I make belongs to the same story. Every exhibition is another chapter. Some chapters are quiet. Some are angry. Some are funny. All of them are trying to make sense of what it means to be alive, to change, and to keep going when life doesn't turn out the way you expected.
